"Wait. The undergrowth. It's... enormously cute."

Here are some thoughts about comics and comics based films and whatnot.

Fearless Defenders #6: ...sigh. I just feel so tired and disappointed about this, and nothing any of the creators are saying is making me feel better. Cullen Bunn posted saying that we'll see the major impact Annabelle's life had on the people around her but... I don't want to read about that. I want to read about HER LIFE, not the impact it had on other people. SIGH again. He also said we should hang on for the next two issues, but I'm not planning to buy them: I'll wait and see what other people say about them. But even if it is a fakeout and we get Annabelle back, my enthusiasm for this comic is mostly gone.

Young Avengers #7&8: this comic is just so fun! (SMOOOOOOCH. :D) It has so much energy and willingness to be a bit silly. Something about the interaction between Kate and America in #7 made me ship them a whole lot; possibly it's just that they interacted at all, but let's be honest, I don't need characters to interact for me to ship them. :D The whole thing is so dynamic and funny and cool, and everything about the last few pages of #8 made me go "WAIT WHAT WHEN IS THE NEXT ISSUE." (I also loved Loki suggesting that the reason that there's so many other dimensions where they go bad is because going bad is easy, not because it's inevitable.)

Red Sonja #1: I basically bought this for the gorgeous Fiona Staples cover, and consider it a major achievement that I made it back to work without getting run over, given the amount of time I spent staring at it. ♥ Anyway, I liked the comic itself a lot too: it was fun, and rather Xena-ish. I probably won't keep buying it, because it's expensive and I'm sorry but I just CANNOT get past the chainmail bikini issue, but I might get the trade.

Li'l Gotham #15: Batman and Robin go to Comic Con and it is AMAZING. I laughed! And then I cried a bit. This comic is so wonderful.

Smallville #56: Speaking of wonderful things... I started reading this again because Wonder Woman, and based on this issue I think I made the right choice. Great, intriguing introduction for Smallville!Wondy.

In other comics news, DC's next film is going to be Batman/Superman. Sigh. Aside from the lack-of-Wonder-Woman issue - which is NOT MINOR - this depresses me because WB seem to be too timid to actually do anything with the vast stable of rich, interesting characters they have to play with. A Justice League film is all well and good (at least it might mean Wonder Woman on the big screen, right?), but Marvel's kind of already got the shared cinematic universe team movie thing sewn up. Whatever DC does with Justice League, it'll be compared to The Avengers, and it'd have to be pretty special to win that fight. Plus, DC's not exactly starting from a strong position here: they have Man of Steel, but Green Lantern flopped and Nolan's Batverse doesn't exactly play well with others. I'd love to see DC going down a different route and trying to make films that can't be dismissed as " just another superhero movie". A Question film (pref Renee Montoya, obvs). Gotham Central (possibly better as a TV series?). Spoiler. Checkmate. Batwoman: Elegy could make a great film. A shared universe Oracle film would be amazing, though it might need a lot of adapting (ooh, maybe it could be combined with a Cass film - she rescues Babs, Babs steps up and uses her librarian powers to help Cass with the word bits of crime fighting, discovers she is REALLY GOOD AT IT etc). I would LOVE to see a Nightrunner film, in French, with subtitles. And so on. Basically none of these are ever going to happen, because they wouldn't be massive smash hit blockbusters, but done right... wouldn't they be great?

And meanwhile, Marvel still hasn't announced a Black Widow film, or a Captain Marvel one, or a Black Panther one, etc etc etc. *taps watch impatiently*

Wow sorry this comment got really long!

I am just really bored with deaths in comics in general. They aren't fun to read. :/

(But I have no ground to stand on, saying that, because When Batman Was Sorta Dead is when a lot of my favorite comics came from.)

(I also loved Loki suggesting that the reason that there's so many other dimensions where they go bad is because going bad is easy, not because it's inevitable.)
Ooh, neat! Is Kate around more now? I have mostly not been very interested in YA because I would be reading it for Kate and she got so little panel time at the beginning.

I basically bought this for the gorgeous Fiona Staples cover
They had so many pretty covers! I was waffling between Stephanie Buscema and Jenny Frison and finally went with the second one.

Even "Wally" was in Li'l Gotham. It was so great.

I started reading this again because Wonder Woman, and based on this issue I think I made the right choice
I was wondering if it was worth reading for Diana. The panels I saw of bb!Diana finding Steve and being like "NO BOYS BUT YOU WILL BE MY SECRET BOY" were so cute.

I heard Marvel has a Captain/Ms. Marvel script? But not plans for it, yet. But yes, impatience.

And it produced lots of interesting stories about characters lower down the food chain, as it were.
Honestly it is a rare day when I am actually reading Batman because I care about Bruce, ahaha.

She (and Noh Varr) turned up again in... either #4 or #5?
Oh, nice!

you could always keep an eye on it and catch up later if it works out?
Cool, thanks! And yeah, I was wondering if maybe I should just wait until the print issue for it comes out.

I first heard about it over a year ago so they certainly don't seem to be in any hurry with it.
It annoys me to no end that an Ant Man movie is coming before any of the lady Avengers get one.

I have heard some bad things about Hank Pym, but it might have been Ultimate Hank Pym (comics, how do they work??). FF has gotten me to semi-care about Scott Lang Ant Man, though.

Hahaha oh no. That sounds hilarious yet frustrating.

It makes me grumpy to think that the Black Widowand Wonder Woman movies are being held up because the studios don't trust a female lead. And I feel like I've been hearing about the Black Panther movie forever but it hasn't gone anywhere. (Also, Deadpool).

I'm surprised WB hasn't jumped on putting films into production while Marvel is killing it with Iron Man, Avengers, a billion X-movies, etc...
