Downton Abbey

Hmm, I was not overly delighted with the finale. I'm not quite at the "I diskard it uterly" stage yet, but many of the things it is currently choosing to be do not please me.

(Disclaimer: I was not entirely paying attention during this episode, since I was busy reading 52 volume 2 in the ad breaks and during any scenes I disapproved of. I'm finding 52 a bit of an uphill struggle, since I don't really know the backstory or what's going on or who about 90% of the characters are, but every now and then Renee Montoya gets a few pages, so I persevere. Anyway. Back to Downton Abbey.)

I think I have turned into a Sybil/Branson anti-shipper. He just doesn't seem to care that much about her feelings or concerns, and they don't really have much chemistry to me - they both seem less interested in the other as a person than in what they represent. BOO, I SAY.

Speaking of relationships that make me grumpy, did not like Robert/June (was that her name? I am bad at names). Partly because I really love Robert and Cora's relationship but also because it just seemed really cursory: I didn't buy that they were really that into each other at all.

I am not sure which pantomime Evil Moustache Man escaped from but I would quite like it to take him back, please.

So cross about Lavinia. I really liked her and it was just a such a boring direction to go in, especially with the whole "she died of a BROKEN HEART" routine. What I am taking away from this is that OT3s save lives. And now I expect we will have a whole other season of Matthew and Mary angsting about how they can NEVER BE TOGETHER when, let's be honest, they totally can. Bets on Evil Richard's fate? I am going for "gets killed in a ludicrously melodramatic way in a moment of maximum angst", personally.

Was it just me, or was everyone really ridiculously pale in the funeral scene? Matthew especially. I did wonder if next season's shock development is going to be that they are all VAMPIRES.

A few things I liked, because it is beginning to sound like I hated it, which I didn't: Robert's top hat! Mrs Hughes, who is my new favourite! Thomas hilariously attempting to weasel his way back into Downton! Mary's obvious concern and affection for Lavinia and Anna! Anna and Bates selling me on their relationship again! Violet in general! YES.
